Violent storms caused havoc in southern Germany late on Wednesday night, and forced the emergency landing of a Ryanair jet in which passengers were injured.
The city of Reutlingen, in southwest Germany, had to deploy snowploughs at the height of the summer season after a violent storm
dumped huge quantities of hail in the streets on Friday.
Thanks to the weather front ‘Peggy’, which is moving west over Germany, the Bundesrepublik is seeing storms strike and saying goodbye to summer weather.
The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a weather warning for the east of the country for Monday, as a low pressure front creeps in from Scandinavia.
The dry spell is over – for now. After sweltering temperatures that topped 42C last week, the country is dealing with thunderstorms, high winds, heavy rain and hailstones.
While western Germany has been struck by storms and lightning in the past days, the eastern part has remained hot and dry. That changed Thursday afternoon.
