German Chancellor Angela Merkel
confirmed on Saturday she would start talks with liberals and Greens to try to
form a new coalition government after last month's election.
The general election in September, expected to change a government widely regarded as stuck in an unproductive rut, could produce more of the same – after the two smaller parties this weekend ruled out any three-way grouping.
