Almost a quarter of German children are sometimes or regularly smacked by their parents, a study has found. Corporal punishment is more common and severe in working class families but the discrepancy between what children and their parents report is greater among privileged families.

Burglars got more than they bargained for when stealing computer hard drives and memory sticks from a house in eastern Germany. After discovering a horde of child pornography, they turned the suspected sex offender in to the police.
