Meteorologists from the German Weather Service (DWD) have issued warnings for slippery conditions, especially in mountainous regions and on the coasts, as the first real dose of winter weather sweeps the country.
If you drive, now is the time to switch to winter tires and prepare for slippery roads, especially at night and in the early morning. Keep an eye on local forecasts and allow extra time for journeys.

'Unpleasant weather'
German media reports have described the incoming weather as “unpleasant November weather,” with a mix of rain, sleet and snow showers expected to disrupt daily life.
The DWD forecasts single-digit temperatures nationwide. In some areas, a brief dusting of snow could transform the landscape overnight.
In the low mountain ranges – such as the Ore Mountains and Upper Harz – up to five centimetres of fresh snow is expected, while the higher peaks of the Alps could see as much as 20 centimetres.
But the snow is unlikely to settle except at higher elevations.
At the same time, Germany’s coastlines are expected to face stormy conditions, with heavy showers and gusty winds battering the North Sea and Baltic Sea regions.

In the Bavarian Alps, up to 20 centimetres of fresh snow could was predicted.
On Tuesday, persistent clouds are forecast to stretch from the north to the centre of the country, bringing rain and sleet to the low mountain ranges.
In the south, however, a bit more sunshine is expected. Night-time temperatures could vary widely, from a mild 7C on the Frisian Islands to a chilly -8C over fresh snow in the Alps.
