Foodies get ready: the gourmet guide La Liste's annual ranking of the world's 'best' 1,000 restaurants has just been published.
Once again the winning restaurants have managed to score 99.5 points out of 100 - and one of them is from Germany.
The Schwarzwaldstube located in Baiersbronn in Baden-WĂĽrttemberg was able to defend its top position as Germany's best restaurant.Â
However, it doesn't hold the top position alone. The eatery shares it with eight other world-renowned restaurants, including the Cheval Blanc by Peter Knogl in Basel, Switzerland, the Lung King Heen, in Hong Kong's Four Seasons Hotel, the Guy Savoy in Paris and Le Bernardin in New York.
The ranking takes into account ratings from restaurant guides, reviews from testers, online ratings and opinions from chefs. A score of 100 points is possible, but no restaurant has achieved it yet.Â
Visit the Black Forest for fine dining
People keen to try excellent food and wine should head to the small town of Baiersbronn in the northern Black Forest region because it is known for its outstanding gourmet cuisine.
The Schwarzwaldstube, which is part of the the Traube Tonbach hotel, has regularly been awarded three stars in the Michelin Guide since 1993.
You can expect French-inspired tasting menus, featuring dishes like 'char-grilled Breton lobster' and a 'mosaic of quail breast and sweetbreads in Madeira gelĂ©e'. There's also a vegetarian menu for those who don't eat meat, featuring delightful bites like a 'puff pastry tart with Provençal vegetables'. Of course prices may set you back, with tasting menus ranging from around €245 to €295 per guest.Â

In 2020, the restaurant hit the headlines for the wrong reasons when it burned down in a fire. In the years that followed, the building was rebuilt and the restaurant resumed operations - with remarkable success. Achieving 99.5 points in this year's La Liste ranking, chef Torsten Michel and his team have proved that top German cuisine does not only hold its own internationally, but also sets the tone worldwide.
Along with the Schwarzwaldstube, there is another three-starred restaurant in the town - the Bareiss. The Schlossberg and the 1789 restaurant, formerly known as the Köhlerstub, also have a Michelin star.

What about Germany's other top restaurants?
There is no shortage of mouthwatering food in Germany. Whether you're looking for avant-garde tasting menus or classical takes on European and international cuisine, there's something for everyone in every corner of the country.Â
