German Finance Minister Peer Steinbrück warned on Friday that the world must avoid a spiral of 1930s-style protectionism as senior G7 finance officials headed to Rome for talks on the economic crisis.
German officials struck a positive note on their country’s economic performance at Friday’s G7 meeting in Washington, saying there is no cause for doom and gloom.
