If you've been left waiting months, or even years, to hear a decision on your application to naturalise as German you may be wondering what you can do to speed things up. We asked experts to lay out some options.

It's interesting that they always quote "processed in order received" but then you also get quotes like "...into the last hour of their work day: "They’re going to take an easy case. So if there’s a nice cover letter and everything is there and neatly presented – they’ll pick that file."

It was a lawyer who advised me to get permanent residency first because it gives you the security needed especially when one does not know what this or future governments will decide when it comes to citizenship. I found this to be smart advice.
