Held annually by Mixology magazine since 2007, the Moxology Awards highlight outstanding achievements in bar culture across Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
For anyone interested in cocktails, the following venues offer a taste of the very best in what Germany has to offer, from legendary institutions to newcomers pushing boundaries in cocktail creativity and customer experience.
Berlin
At this year’s awards ceremony, which took place at Berlin’s Festsaal Kreuzberg in Berlin, Green Door in Berlin-Schöneberg was named "Bar of the Year" for the second time in a row.
Located near Nollendorfplatz, the American-style bar is noted for its unique atmosphere. The furniture was imported from New York in the 1990s. The walls were painted by artist Thomas Hauser with mysterious patterns creating an “interior somewhere between a private salon and a David Lynch film".
In a rare double-triumph, the Green Door team, led by head bartender Maria Gorbatschova, was also recognised as "Bar Team of the Year".

Berlin scored a second prize on the night when Buck & Breck in Mitte was honoured as a "Bar Institution" – a distinction reserved for bars that have existed for at least 10 years and maintain exceptional standards. “Bartender of the Year” went to Buck & Breck’s Vito Nicotra.
Arash Ghassemi took home the fifth prize for Berlin as “Host of the Year” at his Bar Basta in Casa Camper on Weinmeisterstraße.
Hamburg
Hamburg’s Nick & Nora, located in the Winterhude district, was chosen by the jury as the “New Bar of the Year.”
Hamburg also celebrated a second win when Jing Jing, a Southeast Asian-inspired bar, was named as "Restaurant Bar of the Year" for the second consecutive year.
Munich
Munich’s Ory at the Mandarin Oriental hotel reclaimed the title of "Hotel Bar of the Year," continuing its legacy near the famous Hofbräuhaus in Munich’s old town. The same bar celebrated twice when mixologist Jennifer Mindle was named “Newcomer of the Year”.
Cologne
Cologne’s Zest and Spice triumphed in the “Best cocktail menu” category. Its minimalist bar uses a colour-coded system to describe drinks’ flavours – for example, yellow indicates fruity, red strong, brown nutty, and blue sparkling – encouraging patrons to explore new tastes and dismantle preconceived ideas about ingredients.
