Two separate stabbings took place on Saturday in Germany, one in Munich and one in Berlin, which left several injured. A female attacker was shot dead by police.

Munich attack

Two people were injured in a knife attack in Munich, on Saturday.

A 30-year-old woman attacked members of the public with a blade at the Theresienwiese, the famous location of Oktoberfest.

She injured two people, a 56-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, before being shot by police.

The two victims were treated for minor injuries as outpatients while the attacker was taken to hospital where she died of her injuries.

The attacker's motive was unclear and is now the subject of an investigation, a police spokesperson said.

She lived in the immediate vicinity of the crime scene and had no previous history of violent crime.

Police said it was unlikely that the woman was related to the two victims.

Man seriously injured in Berlin

Separately in Berlin, a 40-year-old man is said to have bought a knife and a pair of scissors in a supermarket in the Lichtenberg area before attacking a 66-year-old man in the same store, police said on Sunday.

The man fled after the attack, but police arrested him nearby shortly afterwards.

The victim was taken to a hospital and underwent emergency surgery.

A police spokesperson was unable to provide any information on his condition at the time of writing.

The 40-year-old suspect was scheduled to appear before a judge on Sunday.

It remained unclear whether the two men knew one another.
