A survey carried out by market research institute Bilendi on behalf of the regional portal meinestadt.de found that 22.7 percent of employees in Germany fear they could lose their jobs as a result of AI, the newspapers of the Funke Media Group reported on Monday.
Interestingly, concern was more marked among women: this was a worry for 24.3 percent of women compared with 21.7 percent of men.
When asked about the impact of AI on their workload, respondents' answers were mixed. More than one in three said their workload had increased, partially due to the need for further training in how to use AI.Â

But around one in four said their workload had already reduced thanks to AI. These employees said they were also more productive because using AI decreased the number of steps needed in certain tasks.
And 28.3 percent even saw the future of their own jobs as more secure than before, but again, the risks appear to be perceived differently by men and women.Â
While 34.9 percent of men believed that AI will secure their jobs, only 17.5 percent of women felt this way.
The use of AI is likely to fundamentally change many industries and jobs in the future, this survey shows that it's not currently the case in the corporate world in Germany.

A total of 55.4 percent of respondents said that AI did not play any role at all in their everyday working lives and only 1.4 percent believed that it was already having a strong impact on their own profession and industry.
Three thousand employees across different sectors were polled in June for the survey.
