When you apply for German citizenship, one of the first questions you'll be asked is what type of residence permit you have. Will you run into problems if you don't have permanent residency rights?

There is also the (small, admittedly) group who can receive German citizenship by restitution who are lucky enough to not need prior residency in Germany nor the language requirement. Since the 2022 reforms this has become a much more viable pathway for those eligible.
