As the world prepares to mark St Patrick’s Day, here's where you can get in on the action in Germany.

Tuesday, March 17th will mark St Patrick’s Day, which commemorates Ireland’s patron saint and, more broadly, Irish culture and heritage all around the world.

Generally speaking, celebrations won't be as widespread in Germany as in some other countries but many places will still offer a number of Paddy’s Day-themed events.

Look out for the dates below. Some events - like the Munich St. Patrick's Day parade – while others take place on the following weekend.

And if in doubt, simply look for your nearest Irish pub!

Munich

Arguably, Germany’s largest St Patrick’s Day event takes place in the Bavarian capital, where Munich's Irish community have celebrated the weekend before the Irish national holiday since 1996.

To mark this year's 30th anniversary, the Munich Irish Network will host a two-day open-air festival at Odeonsplatz on March 16th and 17th, featuring live Irish music.

The highlight of the event is expected to be the St. Patrick's Day parade, starting at 12 noon on Sunday from MĂĽnchner Freiheit and processing via Leopold-/LudwigstraĂźe to Odeonsplatz.

Frankfurt and surrounding area

O'Reilly's Irish Pub in Frankfurt, known for its Irish events, is still going strong opposite Hauptbahnhof and hosts a St. Patrick's Day party. Highlights typically include live music, karaoke, traditional Irish food and football coverage.

There are also special offers for punters and donations go to the children's cancer ward at Frankfurt University Hospital.

On Friday 20th and Saturday 21st March, the Festungskeller Rüsselsheim (between Frankfurt and Mainz) is hosting an Irish Weekend. Expect traditional music, dancing and food.

If you love Irish traditional music, check out the Irish Heartbeat Festival on Wednesday March 18th at the Frankfurter Hof in Mainz. This 38-year tradition brings the pulse of Irish culture to Germany around St Patrick's Day, featuring acts like Yann Honoré (one-man Celtic orchestra), Eva Coyle Band and Billow Wood (old meets new Ireland).

Other stops on the Irish Heartbeat Festival tour this year include Hamburg (March 14th), Schwäbisch Gmünd (March 15th), and Paderborn (March 21st).

Berlin

Berlin has some great Irish pubs that have plenty of events on for St Patrick's Day, whether it's Molly Malone's, The Happy Pig or MacLaren's Pub in Friedrichshain (which is modelled on the bar from How I Met Your Mother).

We'd also recommend checking out the Tipperary at Leopoldplatz, which has Guinness and Magners Cider on tap. Live music and Irish specialities will be on offer on Sunday.

The Kilkenny Irish Pub at Hackescher Markt is a Berlin institution, proudly describing itself as the “largest and liveliest of Berlin’s many Irish pubs”. The rooms are decorated in a variety of styles, each representing a specific period of Irish history and culture.

For the full 2026 line‑up of pub crawls, gigs and events it's also worth checking city guides like BeingIrish.berlin.

North Rhine-Westphalia

Whether in Cologne, Düsseldorf or Dortmund, there are plenty of Irish pubs in the western state to get stuck into.

In Düsseldorf, the three pubs McLaughlins, Fatty's and O'Reillys are fairly near each other so they should be easy to check out.
