Pressure is mounting on German authorities to review disaster warning systems after flooding claimed the lives of more than 170 people, injured hundreds, while the search for missing people continues.

Readers might be interested to follow the link below and read in greater detail some of the thinking on the floods from a scientific viewpoint. One problem with the EFAS warning system is its focus on major rivers. Prof Hannah Cloke might be critical, but it appears to be a fault in the design [she was part of], not to have considered smaller tributaries and extreme weather. https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2021/07/europe-s-deadly-floods-leave-scientists-stunned
