Well wishes were also paid across the EU for the US President, who announced the news on Twitter early Friday morning.
"Wishing @realDonaldTrump and @FLOTUS a speedy recovery. Covid-19 is a battle we all continue to fight. Everyday. No matter where we live," European Union chief Charles Michel said in a tweet, referring also to the First Lady of the United States.

Yet the German media used the diagnosis to call into question the US president's leadership, less than five weeks before the Presidential elections on November 3rd.
"Thus the unthinkable became thinkable," wrote Spiegel Online. "The most powerful man in the world, who had been playing down coronavirus for months, who had openly mocked the wearing of masks, who liked to present himself as invincible, has now infected himself."
