Four people were injured in a nine-car pile-up in Schleswig-Holstein on Thursday night into Friday morning in the bad weather. “After a heavy hailstorm the road was covered in ice and was as smooth as glass,” a police spokesman said on Friday morning. A woman suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash on the A7 near Rendsburg.
In Hesse, central Germany, the town of Fulda received the worst of the storm. Manhole covers were pushed out and part of the train station was flooded. The fire service was called to 30 weather-related incidents, including pumping out several basements.

Hail, thunder and lightning also hit Nuremberg in northern Bavaria. Felled tress blocked roads and fallen branches damaged cars and buildings. Rail services were also affected. The fire service in Nuremberg said they attended 160 incidents.

The stormy weather is set to continue in Germany, with the cold weather front arriving in the east on Friday, according to weather service DWD.
But the sunshine is expected to return later this weekend.
