A baby born in a Munich S-Bahn commuter train will receive a lifelong free ticket to ride the city’s public transportation system, the rail operator announced on Wednesday.

"The ticket will be valid as long as Deutsche Bahn runs the S-Bahn system," company head Michael Wuth said.

Baby Leo was born on Monday evening on the S8 line when his mother suddenly went into labour and an S-Bahn worker aided in the birth of the infant.

"I would like for Leo to be a loyal passenger on the S-Bahn from the beginning," Wuth said, adding that he would not speculate as to whether such a gift would lead to a boom of baby births on public transportation.
