The number of neo-Nazis in Germany increased by five percent in the last year, German tabloid daily Bild reported on Wednesday.

The paper cited a still unpublished yearly report from the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), which says German citizens who openly want a FĂĽhrerstaat, or dictatorship modeled after Hitler's national socialist government, has increased from 4,200 to 4,400.

Meanwhile the report says the number of citizens with right-wing extremist potential went down 20 percent from 38,600 to 31,000 - a reduction likely due to changes in statistical data gathering. The German Republican party (Die Republikaner) ceased to be considered a right-wing extremist party by the BfV in 2006.
